In April, 2010, NESCOE requested ISO-NE to conduct a study of New England's power system in the year 2030.
The purpose of the study is to forecast reliability, cost and policy compliance outcomes expected for New England's power system over a 20 year period under assumptions that reflect status quo market and reliability constructs. NESCOE also requested data related to: 1) market sourced replacement or repowering of current carbon-heavy traditional generating resources that could be approaching the end of their useful lives, and 2) replacement of the same through competitive procurement of additional renewable resources from New England and neighboring Canadian provinces.
The analysis will assist New England in meeting our Governors' goals to pursue power system evolution in a way that minimizes consumer costs while responding aggressively to our nation's energy and climate challenges.
