States Form Renewable Procurement Work Group
Pursuant to the New England Governors' collective interest in exploring means to develop renewable resources in and around New England that can serve customers cost-effectively, the New England states are working on potential mechanisms to enable the joint or separate but coordinated procurement of renewable resources.
To assist in this effort, the states formed a Renewable Procurement Work Group. The Work Group includes state representatives from across New England who oversee current competitive power procurement processes or who administer such procurement, as well as NESCOE Managers and staff, state energy policy officials, and staff of the New England Governors' Conference.
At this time, the Work Group is examining the means and timing of power procurement across New England in order to identify opportunities to coordinate such procurement, as well as means to overcome any impediments that may be identified. The Work Group is also working on potential Terms & Conditions and a sample regional Request for Proposal for the procurement of renewable power that could serve as a model for future solicitations.
The Work Group's efforts will assist the New England states comply with direction from the New England Governors, as detailed in the New England Governors' 2009 Renewable Energy Blueprint Resolution and the New England Governors' & Eastern Canadian Premiers' 2009 Resolution Concerning Renewable Energy.
